About Finance With Tips

**About Marcus**

Hey, I’m Marcus.

I started financewithtips.com in 2020, three years after my wife Theresa and I finished paying off $28,000 in credit card debt. I lived in Cleveland my whole life, spent twelve years selling insurance at Allstate, and now run a small marketing consulting business out of my home office in Parma Heights.

I’m not a CFP. I don’t sell anything. I haven’t written a book. I’m a guy who learned personal finance the hard way and decided to write about what worked, what didn’t, and what I wish someone had told me sooner.

Once a month I host a free Family Finance Basics workshop at the Parma Heights Branch Library. The questions I get there are usually the same questions I get from readers: How do I budget on irregular income? Should I pay off debt or invest first? How do I talk to my spouse about money without it becoming a fight?

Everything I write on this site comes from one of three places: my own household (Theresa is an RN at Cleveland Clinic, our daughter Sofia is 11, our son Leo is 7), the people who come to my workshops, or research I’ve spent way too many evenings reading. I cite sources when I use numbers I didn’t generate myself.

If something I wrote helped you, I’d love to hear about it. If something I wrote was wrong, I’d love to hear that too. You can reach me at marcus[at]financewithtips.com.

Thanks for reading.
